The
scene represents tritons, nymphs and sea animals. There is a fight
between humans and animals, while the nymphs are hanging onto the
triton’s shoulders as he holds a paddle. The plate was destined to be
made in bronze. The thin, curved lines indicate the flat areas, whilst
the muscular figures (or sinuous like the nymphs) have decisive outlines
and precise shading. Someone has recognised the hand of a helper as well
as that of Raphael but it is without doubt by Sanzio himself. Dated to
1511-1512.

La
scena rappresenta tritoni, ninfe e animali marini. Vi è lotta tra
animali e tra umani e animali, mentre la ninfa è aggrappata alle spalle
di un tritone che regge una pagaia. Il piatto era destinato a essere
realizzato in bronzo; le sottili linee curve indicano le zone prive di
rilievo, mentre le figure muscolose (o sinuose come la ninfa) hanno
contorni decisi e ombreggiature nette. Qualcuno ha visto, oltre alla
mano di Raffaello, anche quella di un aiutante, ma non esistono dubbi
sull’attribuzione al Sanzio. Databile 1511-1512.
