Study for a figure in the Dispute of the Sacrament and sketches of heads

The saint in the fresco (the fifth figure on the right in the second row) may be identified with St. Stephen rather than St. Lawrence. The drawing is correct in pose and attitude but, in the final figure, differs greatly in the clothing and the position of the hands. The heads at the bottom might be sketches for the angels peering out from the clouds at the foot of the saints in the fresco.

Nell’affresco il santo (quinta figura da destra nell’ordine superiore) è stato identificato sia con S. Stefano che con S. Lorenzo. Il disegno è accurato per quanto riguarda la posa e l’atteggiamento del santo, ma differisce molto dalla figura definitiva per l’abbigliamento e la posizione delle mani. Le teste tracciate in basso potrebbero essere degli schizzi per gli angeli che nell’affresco appaiono tra le nuvole ai piedi dei santi.
