Most critics are in agreement that this work is by Sanzio, although it was previously considered to be by one of his pupils who, according to Fischel, had “distorted” the invention of his master. Venus born out of the water, with the marine landscape in the background, may be a copy of the statue of Medici Venus, the lower part of her body taken from that of Eve in the Sin of the Ancestors, a fresco in the “Segnatura” Room in the Vatican.

La maggior parte dei critici concorda nell’attribuire al Sanzio anche questi disegni, già ritenuti opera di un suo allievo, che secondo Fischel avrebbe “storpiato” le invenzioni del maestro. La Venere che nasce dalle acque, sullo sfondo di un paesaggio marino, può essere ripresa dalla statua della Venere Medici; la parte inferiore del corpo si ritrova nell’Eva del Peccato dei Progenitori affrescato nella Stanza della Segnatura in Vaticano.
