The three figures are placed within a pyramidal schema animated by rotating motions, immersed in a hilly landscape with sketches of trees and buildings. The drawing was used as a cartoon for the  Esterhazy Madonna, now housed in the Arts Museum in Budapest. The most significant variants in the painting are the introduction into the landscape of randomly placed Roman buildings, something that suggests that it was drawn during Raphael’s transferral to Rome at the end of 1508 but the painter had also visited the city in 1506. As in other folios, there is evidence of Leonardo da Vinci’s influence in the rhythm and composition.

Le tre figure sono composte entro uno schema piramidale animato da moti rotanti contrapposti e immerse in un paesaggio collinoso, con alberi ed edifici solo abbozzati. Il disegno è stato utilizzato come cartone per la Madonna Esterhazy, ora nel Museo di Belle Arti di Budapest. Nel dipinto le varianti più significative sono l’introduzione, nel paesaggio, di edifici romani liberamente raggruppati, cosa che ha fatto ritenere che anche il disegno risalisse all’epoca del trasferimento di Raffaello a Roma, alla fine del 1508; ma il pittore visitò la città già nel 1506. Come in altri fogli, è evidente l’ispirazione leonardesca quanto a ritmi e schemi compositivi.
