This was drawn during the last phase of the elaboration of the main group in the painting, now housed in the Borghese Gallery in Rome, dated 1507. The Virgin, supported by pious women, is missing but the division squares show that the drawing was ready to be transported onto the cartoon. Some areas have a lot of detail whilst others are simple sketches, based on the variations of luminosity of the future painting, for the drawings destined for the cartoons.

Disegno eseguito durante l’ultima fase dell’elaborazione del gruppo principale del dipinto ora nella Galleria Borghese a Roma, datato 1507. Manca la Vergine sorretta dalle pie donne, ma la quadrettatura dimostra che il disegno era ormai pronto per essere trasportato sul cartone. Si possono osservare zone molto rifinite e altre semplicemente abbozzate, come avveniva, in base alle variazioni di luminosità nel futuro dipinto, per i disegni destinati ai cartoni.
