The two figures, inserted into a feint circular frame visible in the upper left-hand corner and in the lower right, appear slightly timid and awkward. The left arm of the Virgin seems to show a sign of repentance as it reaches out until it touches the Child’s foot. These are possible references to different works, all with huge differences that coincide: the Madonna of Orleans, the Madonna Pillar and the Madonna of the Canopy, but it is more probable that the drawing was perhaps a study on its own, from which Raphael later got ideas for his paintings.

Il gruppo delle due figure, inserite in un accenno di cornice circolare visibile in alto a sinistra e in basso a destra, appare un po’ timido e impacciato. Nel braccio sinistro della Vergine è riconoscibile un pentimento, una posizione allungata fino a toccare il piede del Bambino. Sono possibili riferimenti a diverse opere, tutte con maggiori differenze che coincidenze: con la Madonna d’Orleans, con la Madonna Colonna e con la Madonna del Baldacchino, ma è più probabile che il disegno fosse uno studio a sé, da cui Raffaello ha poi preso spunto per opere diverse.
