THE DEATH OF THE KNIGHT OF CELANO
After the blessed Francis has prayed to save the soul of the knight of Celano, who, courteously, had invited him to eat, we see the knight after his confession. While everyone is preparing to eat he dies suddenly. It is in this fresco that the artist, already mentioned in the analysis of the first scene, the last to be completed, has a hand in the painting and it is probably here that Giotto realises his merit and lets him paint the last three scenes on the left wall and the first of the right, almost completely autonomously.

LA MORTE DEL CAVALIERE DI CELANO
Dopo che il beato Francesco aveva pregato per la salvezza dell’anima di un cavaliere di Celano, il quale, cortesemente, lo aveva invitato a pranzo, si vede il cavaliere, dopo la confessione e mentre tutti si preparavano per mangiare, che muore improvvisamente.
È in questo affresco che il pittore di cui abbiamo già accennato nell’analisi della prima scena, nonché l’ultima a essere eseguita, mette mano per la prima volta nella serie ed è, probabilmente, a questo punto che Giotto, resosi conto delle qualità del pittore, gli affida anche le ultime tre scene della parete sinistra e la prima della parete destra, eseguite quasi del tutto in perfetta autonomia.
