THE TEST OF FIRE IN FRONT OF THE SULTAN
Here is St. Francis who, in order to express his faith in Christ, wants to enter a fire together with the Sultan’s priests from Babylon. Not only does nobody follow him, they all run away. The fresco is not signed and it is held to be the work of a helper who had personality, most probably the same artist who worked on the Vaults of the Doctors.

Si vede qui San Francesco che, per esprimere la fede in Cristo, volle entrare in un fuoco con i sacerdoti del sultano di Babilonia. Non solo nessuno lo seguì ma fuggirono via tutti.
L’affresco non è autografo, si ritiene, infatti, che ci sia la mano di un aiuto dotato di personalità, molto probabilmente lo stesso che lavorò nella Volta dei Dottori.
