monumenti romani è lo spunto per questa allegoria. Anche in questo gigante
stanco e malinconico, Michelangelo riporta a unità di visione il duplice
aspetto del classicismo rinascimentale: quello di realtà naturalistica e
quello di idea formale. L'imitazione del vero e l'invenzione stilistica, in sé
contrastanti, si fondono nel simbolo antropomorfico di uno stato d'animo. |

Dusk
The river God of Roman monuments
was the idea for this allegory. Even in this weary and melancholic giant,
Michelangelo is able to unify the double aspects of Renaissance classicism,
that of naturalistic reality and formal idea. Imitation of the real and
stylistic invention, a contrast on their own, are fused in an anthropomorphic
symbol of the state of the soul.
