Le sfingi ridenti di Civita Castellana, a mezzo tra il ferino e l'umano, l'architettura e la scultura, detengono un ambiguo fascino, che la liscia «pelle» del marmo usurato si incarica di accentuare. The laughing sphinxes of Civita Castellana, halfway between the savage and the human, and between architecture and sculpture, hold an ambiguous fascination, which the smooth, worn surface of the marble succeeds in accentuating.
