Anonimo     Frammento di pilastrino Nel periodo intermedio tra lo svanire della tradizione figurale classica e la rinascita della figura attuata dal Romanico, in ispecie tra l'VIII e il IX secolo, si incontrano di frequente ornati come questo, dai quali è bandita la forma umana e animale e gli stessi motivi vegetali sono schematizzati sino a perdere ogni  significato naturalistico. Sono temi anch'essi nel mondo antico, e qui adottati in accezione sommaria e irregolare; tuttavia nel segno pesante e risentito può leggersi il presagio della nuova sensibilità plastica in formazione.	Anonimo     Fragments of slab In the intermediate period between the end of the traditional classical figures and the birth of the actual Romanesque figure between the 8th and 9th centuries, one frequently encounters decorations such as this where the human or animal figure is banned and the same vegetative motifs are schematised to almost lose their naturalistic significance. These are themes of the ancient world, and here have been adopted in a brief and irregular acceptance. However, in the heavy and angry marks one can recognise the onset of a new, plastic sensibility being formed.
