At the beginning of the century the successive great exhibitions and the creation throughout Europe of numerous publications specialising in fashion determined rapid circulation and the confrontation of new ideas. It was in this context that the movement known as modernism was born and, depending on the country where it was developed, it took the name of Art Nouveau, Jugendstil Modern Style and Liberty.

IL XX SECOLO

All’inizio del secolo, il succedersi incalzante delle grandi esposizioni mondiali ed il sorgere, in tutta Europa, di numerose pubblicazioni specialistiche di moda, determinano velocemente la circolazione ed il confronto delle idee proposte. In questo contesto nasce quel movimento che si chiama modernismo e che, a seconda del paese in cui si sviluppa, prende il nome di Art nouveau, Jugendstil Modern Style, Liberty.

	The Modernism claims the function of ornamentation in opposition to the free decoration of the previous historical period and is shown in works that refuse all revivals but rather a marked interest in Japanese art.	Il Modernismo, che rivendica la funzionalità dell’ornamento contro la gratuità della decorazione del periodo storico precedente, si concretizza con opere che rifiutano tutti i revival manifestando uno spiccato interesse per l’arte giapponese.
