PTŁNI
/ VIth-Vllth centuries
This
is one of the oldest examples of a domedroom (Kuppel-Halle). It is
composed of a single wide nave subdivided by four pilasters supporting
the dome. The solution of the trumped squinches shaped like fans (funnel
shaped niches) which support the dome placed on a high drum is particularly
remarkable. Equally remarkable are the hall barrel vaults along the
longitudinal walls which counter the lateral thrust of the cupola.
Ptłni
is the prototype of a number of similar buildings
in later centuries. Only ruins of it remain at present.
