MUŁNI / XVllth century
The church dedicated to St. George was built between 1664 and 1683. It may be one of the last examples of the great building activity of Armenia.
The chessboard pattern of red and black tufa on the exterior walls and especially the apses produces a typical polychromatic effect. The very delicate decoration is skillfully concentrated around the main openings, thus giving a remarkable contrast with the plain polished walls. The church is preceded by a large porch surmounted by a small bell-tower. The roof of the dome is umbrella shaped in typical late fashion.
